The development of a town centre masterplan comprising a Conservation Area and numerous listed buildings to help regenerate the high street and adjoining areas and mitigate the impacts of through traffic. A primary objective was to create an attractive town centre environment that will result in increased footfall, dwell time and repeat visits, and a visitor experience that is positive, memorable and celebrates the town’s historic assets. The project required close collaboration and coordination with parallel projects including a new swimming pool and leisure centre in the heart of the town and included the creation of a Design Guide to inform all subsequent works.

The masterplan was also the basis of a successful Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) bid which has secured significant funds for the implementation of the masterplan findings.
