Approach

Our ethos is rooted in a desire to shape environments of enduring quality. Our capability allows us to work at all scales, from large masterplans to the detailing of landscape components.

Our starting point is always to fully understand your requirements and aspirations as Client and then to map out and agree a thoroughly considered methodology for delivery.

Of course, each method is bespoke however, there are certain key principles that define our creative approach:

Understanding

A rigorous understanding of the nature of a place and its context is essential to meeting challenges head-on and to fully realise potential.

Balance

Our approach is centred on finding an appropriate and sustainable balance between the many interrelated and often competing forces that influence complex urban environments.

Collaboration

Genuine collaboration between the whole project team is vital for a truly integrated and optimal design solution.

Viability

The deliverability of a scheme both in practical and economic terms is a key priority in our approach.

Place

Solutions must work both strategically and at the human scale. We are committed to creating places of authenticity.

URBAN DESIGN

Our urban design and masterplanning capability is broad in terms of scale, type and context. We can draw on extensive experience of either leading or working within multidisciplinary teams.

At the early stages of a project we are able to undertake baseline site and context studies; develop visions and concepts; test site capacity and carry out feasibility studies.

At more advanced stages we are well experienced in the production of coordinated urban strategies - often collaborating with others with regard to land-use, movement, transport, environment, landscape and sustainability.

We are able to undertake development frameworks for existing urban areas and masterplans for individual sites from outline to detail.  This capability includes the production of Design and Access Statements; design guidance; Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment and development briefs.

Our experience includes business, industrial, residential, leisure and mixed-use masterplans in locations including Eastern Europe, Africa and throughout the UK.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

Our comprehensive landscape design service encompasses projects from concept to post-completion and includes many specialist services such as the design of green roofs, sustainable urban drainage, water features, lighting concepts and furniture.

We have particular expertise in the design and delivery of public and private realm proposals from the city scale through to individual buildings and spaces.  Our capability extends to include the design and restoration of landscapes for public parks, universities, hospitals, residential areas, business parks - as well as for major infrastructure such as roads, bridges, reservoirs and quarries.

Our appreciation of strategic issues supports a ‘green infrastructure’ approach to developing detailed solutions - and at the landscape scale, our approach is always to think contextually and to be specific to place. We seek simple, coherent and creative solutions that integrate architecture, engineering and environment.

We have particular experience in the organization and facilitation of charrettes – from half-day workshops to ‘Enquiry by Design’ events running over the course of several days. This experience includes collaboration with a diverse range of participants such as community and interest groups, statutory consultees, politicians, professionals and the public.

Our approach is tailored to suit the context and objectives of each project however, we have a particular interest in creative techniques employed to encourage active participation and the exchange of ideas and opinions.

Our capability includes the production of exhibition materials, model-making, visualisations and videos.
